I think the best way to view Hypnosis is this: Hypnosis is but a name given to a natural phenomena that we experience every day; called trance. We experience this trance state involuntarily; just like breathing! Like breathing, which we can also consciously control, we can enter the state of Hypnosis voluntarily. And this is what the Hypnotherapist assists the client to do, i.e. to voluntarily enter the trance state. Whilst in this state the subconscious mind is open to suggestion and the job of the therapist is to make suggestions that meet the client's outcomes, goals, desires etc.

The most common form of Trance is what we may call day dreaming or perhaps the drivers trance; suddenly being unaware of large sections of the journey or even being unaware of being unaware!! Perhaps thinking “did I just jump a red light”?

Hypnosis is one of the most effective ways to access and communicate with the subconscious mind and with the addition of Therapeutic modalities; one of the most effective forms of emotional resolution. But I remind you that I said one of them? There are of course many different forms of therapy and each has its successes!

Trans4mational Therapy is my own, predominant style, it is a synthesis of 3 Therapies: Hypnotherapy, Psychotherapy-Counseling and EFT (emotional freedom techniques) and this I believe makes it such an effective modality. For more details on Trans4mational Therapy. . . . click here

Additionally, I offer Rapid Session Therapy, which is just Hypnotherapy (as in not a multi modality approach). Why you may ask? Well, the reason is simple, it is becasue there are a certain number of people, whom we refer to as Somnambulists, who are highly susceptible to Hypnosis and for them it works very effectively and very quickly**. When you watch a stage Hypnotist, these are the people they select. Somnambulism is sleep walking and a sleep walker may wake from sleep and go about tasks that make it appear they are awake, e.g. cook a meal, eat it, wash up and go back to bed. However, in the morning they will have no memory of this event. This is why they are sleected by the stage Hypnotist becasue they are capable of a very deep state of Trance.

**I say quickly because most people can acquire these deeper states with practice and epxrience!

Rapid Session Therapy is tailored just for these Clients and it works very well for them. However, you do not need to be a Somnambulist to get benefit fro Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy. And that is why I have developed differing styles. . . . quite simply becasue Clients differ in their approach to Hypnosis. . .  makes sense really, doesn't it? For other Clients I offer Trans4mational Therapy. . . .  A Therapy Style for most Clients offers the most flexibility and practical solution relative to their needs?

Hypnotherapy can be used for effective treatment of many conditions, especially those that seem to be the most pervasive in modern life; such as:

Stress Management

Anxiety Managemnt

Anger Management

Low Self Esteem or self worth

A lack of Confidence

Relationship issues

Emotional issues

Depression

Trauma etc.

When we learn to manage our stress, anxiety, anger and confidence, life actually begins to feel more worthwhile; we seem to gain purpose. Mostly this is because we are wellness seeking animals albeit that the overwhelming objective of the mind's defense system is to survive; but we are the only mammals that actually seek to thrive and this, to some extent is beyond the understanding of our mind/body systems. However, thrive we can and when we do, life is blissful and that is what Therapy aims to help Clients achieve

How does it work?

As I have said, Hypnosis works by allowing access to the subconscious mind. Essentially this is, theoretically, where our management systems reside. The subconscious mind is the repository of all our experience and how this affects our life, depends on how our brain processes our external sensory experience and our internal world which consists of language, thought, feelings and emotions.

Bypassing the conscious mind (critical factor) we can change our beliefs, values and penrceptions; and thus behaviour.

So, why do we have problems?

Well, one of the most common causes of all human problems is the way we think. If we change our thoughts very often we change our experience. The way we think influences the way we make decisions and this happens outside of conscious awareness. Other reasons for problems are: Miscommunication, Misinterpretation and Misunderstanding and when this occurs we experience inner conflict?

How do we change our thoughts?

One way is by challenging our thoughts and/or changing our self talk. At some level every experience-emotion-feeling we have is transmuted into language (internal or external), this affects or determines the way we think and ultimately behave. Another way is to change the language we use. Very often a persons language has a high negative bias. When our brain processes negative language it accesses negative neural pathways. This is not to say that the neural pathways are negative, but merely that they hold negative information, feeling or emotion! Learning the skill of positive language construction under Hypnosis is an effective way toward change.

If we knew better we would do better!

By challenging our thoughts and changing our inner self talk, and external language, we can become more objective in our outlook, we get better information on which to base our assumptions. With better information we can make better decisions!
