Creating Calmness - Promoting Ideas - Forging Life
Sometimes making the decision to seek help for a mental, emotional or psychological problem can be very challenging. But so is having to deal with the problem itself! However, having made the decision to seek help, though, the next challenge might be, what type of help do you need and who do you choose? Clearly, who you choose to drive the change you are looking for is incredibly important? So, in an effort to make that choice less agonising and hopefully, easier to decide, I offer a Free 1-hour Consultation. However, as they say, talk is easy, so to make the experience more real, I include a trial hypnosis session (with your consent). Most things work better when we are agreeable and willing and hypnosis is no exception. What makes each therapist different is a melody of training, therapeutic and life experience but most importantly empathy and compassion.
Coming from and being trained in the UK, I follow its therapeutic ethos, which is, if you can't prove it; don't say it! In that sense, it is facile for someone to make comments about themselves, e.g. The Best, #1 etc. hence the UK stance. This is mostly so because of a natural bias one may have toward a service they provide. To that end, I feel the best people to demonstrate how I score on the above attributes, are my past clients. You can read what they say here. In addition to that, I have consistently been the top rate hypnotherapist on the WhatClinic service and you can see that here. Trans4mational Therapy Centre, "it does what it says on the can!"
When it comes to my commitment to clients, the driving objective of my practice is to help clients! Clients are real people whose life just isn't working the way they'd like it to. For example, it could be one or all of these areas, their career, social life, relationships, finances or even their personal life. Imagine what it must feel like to have every part of life in such turmoil? But how do we change that? In essence, life is a feeling experience and the overall quality of life is determined by our conscious awareness of that feeling! That feeling could be the result of a day to day awareness or a larger, big-picture perspective i.e. how we see the future panning out? Based on this awareness (usually without conscious awareness) we mentally speculate our forward projection of life. Essentially we subconsciously rationalise the subjective interpretations of our whole life. At that moment, the total life experience, past, present and future lose purpose and meaning! Making it somewhat worse, is the unawareness of what is driving these feelings and for the most part, it is memories. Memories are the key to life, be it misery and failure or happiness and success! From the day we are born to the day we die, to some extent, life is a re-enactment of memories. While we're also learning new things, creating new memories; there is no doubt that past memories play some role in the formation and quality of all new learning.
I like to think of things relating to memory simplistically, as in what kind of stimulus is at work. I use a three-state philosophy, Hypo - Neutral - Hyper.
1. Hypo-memory: is when we are experiencing negative (low) emotions. When we experience this, life doesn't feel too good and sometimes for no apparent reason? But there will always be a reason! In every negative experience, you have had, all of your senses were engaged. So, just going or being somewhere where that looks, sounds, smells, tastes or feels like one of those experiences, is enough to arouse the memory and the emotion. Memories are held in code within our brain and each has the power to initiate the emotions that were felt during the initial experience. Therefore, repetition, exact or similar, can potentially increase the intensity (greater/lesser) and duration (longer/shorter) of each re-occurrence!
2. Neutral-memory: is those memories that seemingly have very little or no emotional content. This, for most people, accounts for most of their daily experience. For example, you may remember a meeting but have no emotional response to it, you have lunch but struggle to remember what you had. If asked to imagine your front door and then asked what side is the lock, which you will remember, but it is unlikely to arouse any emotion. Whilst this accounts for most of one's daily experience, it is the one most discounted! You see this clearly ignored in clients who have depression, anxiety or stress disorder, no part of their life seems neutral?
3. Hyper-memory: this is the upside of life, the fun, joy and happiness of being alive. When you experience these memories it feels good and so do you. The anticipation of being with someone that you like and enjoy brings about a plethora of positive memories, feelings and emotions about past experiences. And, of course, past experience is a potential predictor of future experience.
In my practice, I use my training, clinical and life experience to bring about the outcome you want. It is not always necessary for you to fully experience a painful past, sometimes an understanding of how that plays out in memory is enough! And as much as it may seem to be, memory is not as reliable as we may think. That is a real benefit to you because memories can be changed (reconsolidated). Not changed in the sense that they didn’t happen or by creating a totally false outcome. But rather by reframing the memory. Experiencing memories differently allows you to express them differently, that difference is now experienced as more positive, emotionally. Essentially all that ever changes as a result of therapeutic intervention, is perspective. And that is mostly all that is needed. In a very simple and pragmatic sense, that means, change the memory, change the response!
Ultimately the real place where therapy occurs is in the minds of the client and therapist. Whilst it is, without a doubt, the client that does the work; the therapist, nevertheless, plays the role of a therapeutic mentor. Therefore, the therapeutic relationship between us engenders hope and belief. This plays a crucial part in achieving your goals within the safety of my hypnotherapy practice.
My Free Consultation, therefore, aims to allow You to make the therapeutic choice as to how I can help you; free of any obligation!
