Whether you smoke or not, it wouldn’t stop you from enjoying life; although if you don't, it may just mean you’re around longer to do it! And given the amount of people that don’t smoke these days, it may just increase your social options too!
However, what I am getting at when I say enjoy life is this, the decisions you make that are really important to your old age; are the ones you make early enough that come with the best outcomes. That just means that timing is everything.
I look around me and I see many people who are overweight, unfit and struggling to walk well. Their posture is poor, getting around is difficult and mostly they don’t look overly happy with their lot in life.
One of the most valuable things you will ever own is your body but even if you look after that, it’s of little value if your mind is going or gone! So it seems to me, that in order to enjoy life, being mentally and physically fit just makes it so much easier and certainly (all things being equal) more enduring.
I have heard some people say things like, “you’ve got to die of something’ or “ die, die la” . Although having witnessed some of them later facing a life threatening illness or disease; they suddenly become aware of the folly of their words; all of a sudden they would move heaven and earth for a few more months or years!
Life is something that should be cherished and appreciated and the best time to do it; is now! Now exists in every moment of every minute of every day. Even if you reflect on something enjoyable you did yesterday, it is not yesterday you are enjoying; it is the now experience of yesterday.
The only real way to enjoy life is by being lucid in mind body and spirit; NOW. The Roman’s had a saying: Mens sana in corpore sano, meaning, a healthy body in a healthy mind. To really enjoy life it makes sense to think about our choices, especially the longevity of them. I quit smoking 36 years ago and I’d like to tell you it was because I really thought long and hard about it. The truth is one day I decided to use Auto Suggestion and Trance (hypnosis) to quit; and quit I did! Looking back on it I am pleased I made that decision.
I don’t say this to impress you but rather to impress upon you the importance of timing in making decisions. I can’t say with any certainty, “if I’d carried on smoking I could still be happy and enjoy life”, but I can say that I am sure I am a lot healthier than I would have been and I am very happy about that.
Do I enjoy life; you bet I do. I wake up in the morning with a spring in my step and love in my heart. Love for myself, my family, my friends, the country I live in, the things I have and the endless opportunities I am afforded to find new ways to experience the joy life brings.
One day I hope we meet, so I can help you enjoy life too!
